This recent work, although two dimensional, infers sculptural form through concept and intense working of pastel and pencil over a neutral background. The predominant themes are emotion based, ranging from the delicacy of ‘Touch‘ , the frustration at a start of a working week in ‘I don’t Light Mondays’ through to the dark intensity in ‘Tension’. The flatter depictions of the human figure shown in ‘Ah!’ or ‘Oh!’ carry a sense of loss. I am excited by the mixed media approach as it combines my passions of drawing, material and sculpture while retaining my intuitive sense. My previous work in small sculptures, assemblage and objects and energetic drawings, like these drawings on canvas, allude to a human narrative or emotion in a universal context.
